Western, Gibson (1948) National 1155/Gibson J-45
Varebeskrivelse
Stand: Brugt - men i god stand
Guitartype: Akustiske guitarer
Western, Gibson (1948) National 1155/Gibson J-45, I'm selling my 1948 (Gibson-made) National 1155 in excellent condition.
These guitars were the result of a brief period of collaboration between National-Valco and Gibson. The bodies (and necks on the earliest versions(1947-1949)) were made by Gibson and identical to the J-45 of the era. They were purchased unfinished 'in the white', and the rest was done by National.
The pickguard is thick tortoise-like celluloid, and the rosewood bridge is blockier and slightly thicker than the Gibson version. The tuners are vintage 'double-line' klusons from the 1960s - non-original to the guitar, but an exact fit and still work well. The brown shaded finish is lighter than the typical period Gibson sunburst. The mahogany neck is exactly as Gibson's late-1940s style (*minus a truss rod), with a comfortable, full round "C" profile. The headstock is plain mahogany with no veneer and has an embossed/enameled silver metal "National" logo plate pinned on..
At the time that this particular guitar was built, the arrangement between Gibson and National was just beginning. This first version of the Model 1155 was actually cataloged briefly as the N-66 (only in 1947) and is an extremely rare guitar; the 1155 with the wood and metal bolt-on 'Stylist' neck (made by National) is fairly common, but this Gibson-made fully-heeled dovetail-set-neck guitar was available for only a 3-year period at most.
This guitar has varnish-wear, scratches, nicks, and dings as expected.. but is fully restored, plays easily, and sounds beautiful.
Restoration-work included: neck reset, fretboard level&refret; bridge reglue; bridge saddle-slot re-routed (for better intonation); new bone saddle&pins; partial top-plate center-seam separation re-sealed behind the bridge(*the separation did not go all the way through); a couple internal back-brace ends reglued; and a few cracks glued tight on the back.
Here's a chance to purchase a rare version of a re-branded late-1940s Gibson J45..for a 1960s J45 price.
Cheers
