This edition of the catechism was written by the German Catholic theologian Michael Helding, called Sidonius (1506–1561), for the nobles of Mainz. At the time of writing, Helding was auxiliary bishop of Mainz, titular bishop of Sidon, and a leading member of the diocesan and provincial synod of Mainz.
