There is a quiet path in Nara where time seems to slow down. Stone walls, worn smooth by centuries of passage, guide the eye upward toward the sacred grounds of Nigatsudō, one of the most revered halls within the vast precinct of Tōdai-ji Temple. It is here—between shadow and light—that Masao Ido invites us to walk.
In this work, Ido captures not a grand monument, but a moment of approach. The viewer stands at the foot of a gently rising path, where sunlight filters through dense greenery, casting shifting shadows across stone and plaster.
