Philemon - Concordia Commentary. A Theological Exposition of Sacred Scripture af John G. Nordling. Meget anerkendt og anvendt kommentar til Filemon fra den Lutherske Concordia serie. Meget stor og lækker hardback. 379 sider.
Helt ny. Fra røgfrit hjem.

Om værket:
The Concordia Commentary series enables pastors and teachers of the Word to proclaim the Gospel with greater insight and clarity. God speaks in Leviticus to give Israel His instructions for the divine service. His prescriptions for the many kinds of sacrifices are attended by His promises for the forgiveness of sins and life with Him. Purity and holiness come to God's people through His indwelling presence among them. The brief and practical book of Philemon has long been a favourite of Christians. This commentary expounds Philemon in light of its theological purpose and its setting in the Greco-Roman world. It probes the specific circumstances under which Paul wrote the letter; how Philemon fit in with Paul's missionary travels; and who Philemon and Onesimus were with-in the Christian community. The apostle Paul addresses a crisis: Onesimus has robbed and fled from Philemon, whose house was the place of worship for a Christian church in Colossae. Paul's letter has both a private and a public cast. He speaks to the relationships within a congregation through all the problems and sorrows - yet also adventures and joys - that attend faithful pastoral ministry. Christy Himself serves as the pattern for how Christians relate to one another in forgiving and reconciling love. Unique features of this commentary include its depth; its detailed consideration of ancient Greek and Latin literature that sheds light on Philemon, and its theology, which emphasizes Jesus Christ, God's World and Sacraments, and the doctrine of vocation, whereby each Christian is called to serve God faithfully in his or her particular role in life.
John Nordling has incorporated both his expertise in Holy Scripture and in the Roman Empire into this masterful commentary on Paul's letter to Philemon.
In this commentary - a 350+ commentary on a page-long book of the Bible - Nordling treats his readers to a well-written, thoroughly-researched examination of slavery in the Roman World, Roman attitudes concerning race and skin-color, and means by which the earliest Christian missionaries (specifically, the apostles) went about establishing and overseeing churches.
This background information adds a great deal of depth and liveliness to this often-overlooked book of the Bible. Through the context of Roman slavery (Onesimus was Philemon's slave), Nordling shows how the book of Philemon contributes to the Christian understanding of vocation and service. Through Paul's promise to pay all of Onesimus' debts, Nordling shows how Paul is a "type-of-Christ" in this letter. In it all, Nordling shows that this brief letter overflows with care, gentleness, pastoral concern, and a desire to teach the Christian reader about reconciliation with eachother because of our reconciliation to Jesus Christ.
In all, Nordling's commentary on Philemon ranks with the best Biblical Commentaries, is in-depth and relevant to the modern Christian.
