First and Second Letters to Timothy: Eerdmans Critical Commentary (ECC) af Jerome D. Quinn og William C. Wacker.
Meget grundig, teologisk Bibel kommentar om 1. og 2. Timoteus på hele 918 sider. Evangelikal og akademisk. Helt ny. Flot og solid indbinding. Hardback.

Forlaget skriver:
The inaugural volume of the EERDMANS CRITICAL COMMENTARY series - an expert look at 1 and 2 Timothy, Scripture particularly relevant to the church today.
This new commentary provides a fresh, readable translation of 1 and 2 Timothy together with notes and commentary on this important section of Scripture. The authors show that, in addressing such contemporary topics as church leadership, the roles of women, the use of wealth, heterodoxy, worship, and ethics, these Pauline letters remain highly relevant to church life today. Their work not only offers the best of current scholarship on 1 and 2 Timothy but also demonstrates the high standard of excellence marking the ECC series.

This commentary specializes in word studies. Nearly ever major word is looked at in light of both comparative literature and the pastoral epistles as a whole. For most people, reading this commentary will take them into ancient writers and early church fathers that they have never read or heard of before. In doing this, it helps to bring the meaning of the text to light.
This superb commentary - the culmination of Jerome Quinn's life's work on the Pastorals brought to completion by William Wacker - provides a new translation of 1 Timothy along with notes and commentary. The NOTES section of the book offer detailed philological analysis of the majority of the words used in these Pastoral Epistles. The COMMENT sections guide readers through the complicated theological and practical issues facing the heirs of Paul in the Christian church.

Anmeldelser:
"The exegetical, historical and theological breadth and depth of this work will reward serious students of the Pastoral Epistles."
- The Presbyterian Layman -
"The commentary will benefit the serious and persistent reader and be a source mined by generations of scholars to come."
- Religious Studies Review -
"A rich, readable, and rewarding commentary. The introduction is a model of clarity; the commentary proper is filled with theological and exegetical insight. This commentary is certainly the magnum opus Jerme Quinn intended it to be, and it is destined to become the standard English-language reference work on these letters."
- Jouette M. Bassler, Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University -
"With the appearance of his Anchor Bible commentary on Titus, Jerome Quinn established a unique foothold in the perilous terrain of Pastoral Epistle scholarship. The appearance of this volume, with the immense assistance of William Wacker, completes his project. It is a major contribution to our understanding of the language of these letters and a mine of philological information. Likewise, its distinctive reconstruction of the historical, social, and literary context of 1 and 2 Timothy will be a healthy stimulant to ongoing discussions about their theology and relation to Paul. An important scholarly work."
- Philip H. Towner, United Bible Societies -
