The harp seal, whose drooping whiskers and soulful eyes moved a world to pity, is a seal of the ice.
Each year hundreds of thousands of harp seal pups are born on the colliding, breaking pack ice. Within days, they must fatten and learn to survive on their own, for the ice will soon melt and they must begin their massive 4000-mile migration to and from the fiords of southwest Greenland.
In “Seasons of the Seal”, Fred Bruemmers superb photographs and evocative text take us into the icy realm of the harp seal.
