Jeremy Taylor: The Rule and Exercises of Holy Dying. Taylor er en af de elskede og højt skattede Puritanere på linje med andre store Puritanere som John Bunyan og Matthew Henry. Puritanerne er altid rige og har uendeligt meget at give. Taylor var højt skattet og kaldtes ofte "Shakespeare of Divines". Bogen viser den kristne hvordan han får sin sag i orden med Gud inden han skal dø. Noget der sjældent tales om i dag, men som bliver aktuelt for os alle. Om værket:
The Rule and Exercises of Holy Dying is a book of Christian devotion by Jeremy Taylor. Originally published in 1651. "Holy Dying" is meant to instruct the reader in the "means and instruments" of preparing for a blessed death. The book represent one of the high points of English prose during the period of the early Stuarts. The book contains discussions of theology, moral instruction, often prefaced as "The Consideration reduced to practise," and model prayers requesting divine assistance in achieving them.
The book is half Christian instruction and half memorial sermon, with Taylor displaying his gift for poetic prose. The result is prose that is simultaneously stately and rapturous, "half in love with easeful death", and reads like prose poetry.
Taylor's work was much admired by John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, for its devotional quality.

Jeremy Taylor (1613 - 1667) was a clergyman in the Church of England who achieved fame as an author during The Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell. He is sometimes known as the "Shakespeare of Divines" for his poetic style of writing.
He was made bishop of Down and Connor in Ireland. He was also made vice-chancellor of the University of Dublin.
