Exceptional Signed Hiroshi Murata Japanese Zodiac Bronze Sculptures — Vintage Takaoka Metalwork — Provenance Japan
A rare and highly collectible pair of original Japanese metal sculptures signed by master craftsman Hiroshi Murata, depicting two important figures from the Japanese zodiac:
• Rat (Nezumi) — traditionally associated with prosperity, fertility and abundance
• Rooster (Tori) — symbol of commercial success, renewal and good fortune
These sculptures originate from the celebrated metalworking tradition of Takaoka, one of Japan’s most prestigious historic bronze-casting centers.
Hiroshi Murata is highly regarded for his award-recognized casting techniques and refined metal patination, producing animal sculptures celebrated for their realism, vitality and subtle elegance.
Craftsmanship & Finish
Each sculpture is cast in heavy metal (copper / brass alloy) with remarkable precision, capturing exceptionally fine details in the fur texture of the rat and the layered feather structure of the rooster.
The surface displays delicate tonal gradations with understated gold accents. Particularly striking is the rooster’s vividly colored red comb, which creates a subtle focal point and gives the piece a remarkable lifelike presence without sacrificing refinement.
Each figurine bears the artist’s “Hiroshi” signature mark beneath the base, confirming authenticity and Murata’s commitment to quality craftsmanship.
