Japanese Arita Porcelain Plate with Deer – Late Edo Period (18th–Early 19th Century)
A finely potted Japanese Arita porcelain plate dating to the late Edo period, approximately late 18th to early 19th century.
The plate is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a lively scene of two stylised deer beneath flowering foliage, enclosed within geometric and floral borders. The brushwork is fluid and characteristically Edo in spirit, with well-balanced composition and rhythmic line quality.
The porcelain body is translucent when held to light, confirming true porcelain rather than earthenware. The glaze shows extensive, natural age-related crazing consistent with late Edo feldspathic glaze composition.
