Varebeskrivelse
Stand: Brugt - men i god stand
This is a beautifully carved French-style wooden stool (often called a “tabouret” or plant stand), and it shows strong characteristics of late 19th to early 20th century decorative design.
Key features:
• Highly ornate carving: The dense floral and scrollwork patterns suggest influence from styles like Rococo Revival or Napoleon III (Second Empire) design.
• Pierced apron (openwork): The intricate cut-out floral medallions are typical of decorative French furniture meant to display craftsmanship.
• Curved legs with scrolls: The legs have an almost animalistic or cabriole-like form, ending in stylized feet—common in French decorative pieces.
• Central stretcher with finial: This adds both structural support and visual interest, often seen in plant stands or small accent tables.
• Dark finish: Likely stained hardwood (possibly walnut or stained beech), though it could also be ebonized wood.
What it was used for:
• Most commonly as a plant stand, decorative stool, or display pedestal for vases, sculptures, or lamps.
• The openwork design suggests it wasn’t meant for heavy seating, but more for display.
Age & origin:
• Likely late 1800s to early 1900s
• French or French-inspired European (possibly Belgian or English reproduction in French taste)
