Bishop Andrews 1555-1626:
"Biskop Andrewes var en af sin tids førende bibelforskere. Han var også en af oversætterne af King James-versionen af Bibelen og var King James' yndlingsprædikant. Biskop Andrewes' andagter havde oprindeligt titlen Preces Privatae , som kan oversættes til "Private andagter". De er de private, intime bønner fra en meget offentlig og from mand. Andrewes var ikke motiveret til at skrive disse andagter ud fra et ønske om at udgive dem. Disse andagter blev skrevet fra Andrewes' hjerte af kærlighed og hengivenhed til vor Herre. Andrewes siges at have brugt fem timer i bøn hver dag. Samlingen inkluderer andagter til morgen og aften, som han brugte i sin tid alene med Gud.
Lancelot Andrewes var en engelsk biskop og lærd, der havde høje stillinger i den engelske kirke under Elizabeth I's og James I's regeringstid. Under sidstnævntes regeringstid tjente Andrewes successivt som biskop af Chichester, Ely og Winchester og overvågede oversættelsen af King James-versionen af Bibelen (eller den autoriserede version). I den engelske kirke mindes han den 25. september med en mindre festival".
Bishop Andrews 1555-1626:
"Bishop Andrewes was one of the leading biblical scholars of his time. He was also one of the translators of the King James Version of the Bible and was King James's favorite preacher. Bishop Andrewes' devotions were originally entitled Preces Privatae, which can be translated as "Private Devotions". They are the private, intimate prayers of a very public and pious man. Andrewes was not motivated to write these devotions by a desire to publish them. These devotions were written from Andrewes' heart of love and devotion to our Lord. Andrewes is said to have spent five hours in prayer every day. The collection includes morning and evening devotions which he used in his time alone with God."Lancelot Andrewes was an English bishop and scholar who held high positions in the Church of England during the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I. During the latter's reign, Andrewes served successively as Bishop of Chichester, Ely, and Winchester, and supervised the translation of the King James Version of the Bible (or Authorized Version). In the Church of England, he is commemorated on 25 September with a minor festival."
