Rare Iyo Meito Natural Sharpening Stone – Tobecho, Ehime, Japan – Hand-Inscribed & Sealed – Collector’s Piece
Offered here is an authentic Iyo Meito (伊豫銘砥) natural sharpening stone, quarried in Tobe Town, Iyo District, Ehime Prefecture, one of Japan’s historically respected but now scarce whetstone sources. Iyo stones were prized by traditional craftsmen for their balanced abrasive qualities and refined finishing capability, and today they are increasingly difficult to obtain, especially in clearly identified original pieces such as this example.
This specimen features a striking natural marbled pattern of ivory-white stone with warm iron-oxide veins, creating an appearance reminiscent of fine ink painting or landscape scrolls. The stone retains its original hand-written kanji inscription and red artisan seal, confirming its
