A curious and special item, this bronze Kohl / Kajal maker from India. Locally also called Kajrauta. The ingredients were put in a Kajrauta and it was then hung over the fire. The result was Kajal or Kohl. Kajal or Kohl is a form of make-up, that has been used since ancient times. In India women use it to make their lower eyelid darked, but also to put a dot on the forehead. It is also applied in the neck of a child, where it is not visible. Some people believe that this will strengthen their eyesight. Beautiful patinated bronze. Origin is North India. Total length is approx. 185 mm. Dates from: 19th century Condition is very good.
