Danish maker’s mark for A. Søe (or stylized as “ASOE”), a pewter silversmith and crafts workshop based in Aabenraa, Denmark. The full mark typically reads something like “ASOE DANMARK” or “A. Søe Aabenraa Danmark,” often accompanied by “Kunsthåndværk” (crafts/artisan work) for their handmade pieces.
• A. Søe was active from the early 20th century through the mid-1970s, specializing in pewter (tin) tableware, jewelry, and decorative items with a focus on modernist Danish design. Your plate, with its simple circular form, scalloped fish-motif edge (the etched “fish” or wave patterns around the rim are a signature Søe style), and subtle hammered texture, is a classic example of their everyday serving plates or ashtrays from the 1950s–1960s period.
