Varebeskrivelse
Rare Richard Ginori Compote / Pedestal Bowl, 1936
Height: 9 cm, Diameter: 23 cm
Provenance: Stamped “Richard Ginori – Fabbricato in Italia,” dated 29.2.1936.
This refined pedestal bowl was produced by Richard Ginori in Italy in 1936. The piece is characterized by its ivory glaze, elegant footed form, and balanced proportions, embodying the early modernist language of the manufactory. The underside bears the factory mark along with the rare date stamp of 29 February 1936.
Richard Ginori, founded in 1735 near Florence, became one of Italy’s most important porcelain manufacturers. Under the artistic direction of Gio Ponti in the 1920s and early 30s, the factory embraced a modernist vision that influenced its later designs. This compote reflects that heritage, combining functional clarity with timeless elegance.
Today, works from Richard Ginori are represented in leading museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, underlining the manufactory’s enduring cultural and artistic significance.
Condition:
Good vintage condition. Minor chip/wear to the foot rim and light surface wear consistent with age. No structural damage.
Fun fact: The date stamp falls on a leap day — 29 February. Pieces marked with such a rare date hold an extra layer of uniqueness for collectors, as they could only be produced once every four years.
