Varebeskrivelse
Cantilever Stool with Tubular Steel Frames and Brown Leather Seats, ca. 1970s
Height: 38 cm, Width: 41 cm, Depth: 33 cm
Provenance: In the style of Bauhaus and Gae Aulenti tubular designs.
This stool feature a minimalist cantilever construction in bent tubular steel, finished in white lacquer. The square seats are upholstered in brown leather, showing natural wear and character. With their clean Bauhaus-inspired geometry, the stool embody the postwar fascination with functional, tubular furniture, while the patinated leather adds warmth to the otherwise industrial aesthetic.
Originally produced as versatile seating, it can also function as ottomans or magazine rests, reflecting the adaptability prized in mid-century interiors. The lightweight design (approx. 4 kg) makes them practical for both living rooms and office environments.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with age-related wear. The leather seats show patination and surface marks, consistent with age and use. The lacquered frames have minor abrasions. Structurally stable.
Fun fact: Cantilevered furniture was pioneered in the 1920s by designers like Mart Stam and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and became an enduring design vocabulary later reinterpreted by figures such as Gae Aulenti.
