Provenance: Acquired from a vintage store in Denmark.
This hand-thrown stoneware vase is finished in a deep brown glaze with lighter mottled tones that emphasize its textured surface. The bulbous form tapers toward the base and culminates in a narrow neck with a rounded lip. Uniquely, the body is adorned with irregular applied clay motifs, creating a rugged and organic character that enhances the glaze’s earthy depth.
The contrast of smooth glaze and rough, tactile embellishments gives the vase a sculptural quality. Pieces of this type reflect the mid-century embrace of natural materials and organic imperfection, resonating with the aesthetics of Scandinavian and Japanese-influenced studio pottery.
