Pair of Bulldog Figurines, Bing & Grøndahl, Model 1676
Height: ca. 11 cm, Length: ca. 12 cm
Provenance: Underside marked with Bing & Grøndahl tower logo, model no. 1676, and painter’s initials (MS / KH). One foot stamped Made in Denmark.
This pair of porcelain bulldogs was produced by the Danish manufactory Bing & Grøndahl, founded in 1853 in Copenhagen. Model 1676 was sculpted in the 20th century and captures the sturdy stance and distinctive wrinkled expression of the bulldog with remarkable realism. Each figure is hand-painted with naturalistic details such as darkened muzzles and brown collars.
The underside bears the green B&G tower mark, the blue “B&G” stamp, and handwritten model number 1676, along with painter’s initials—signs of authenticity and craftsmanship. The “Made in Denmark” mark reflects export production, most likely post-1970, before the company’s merger with Royal Copenhagen in 1987.
Condition:
Very good vintage condition with light age-related wear. No visible cracks or restorations. Minor surface marks consistent with age.
Fun fact: Bing & Grøndahl bulldogs remain among the manufactory’s most collected animal figures, often admired for their expressive faces and strong sculptural presence.
