The American author Ellouise Larsen began collecting historical staffordshire english ceramics in USA, in 1920.
Each piece of english staffordshire ceramics, a plate, dish, jug, etc, showet American war scenes, American war heroes, American Presidents, American landscapes, American society.
She travelled to staffordshire potteries England in 1936 and expanded her collection which She donated to a New York museum in 1962.
This book shows most of her collection with full description of each english staffordshire factory who made each piece.
Lots of Black/ White pictures, no colour pictures, a good amount of text.
A specialist book for Lovers of english ceramics.
The book reflects changes in USA In the early 19th century, Agriculture and maritime trade, rather than manufacturing, were the mainstay of the economy.
The Americans were proud of their independence and eager to display visible symbols to express their national pride, Americans therefore imported ceramics decorated with images that were tangible tokens of their patriotism. It was in this climate that Staffordshire potters found a niche market for transferware decorated with American themes.
The pieces are mostly Blue Printed Pottery , transferware.
