A rare piece of high-end Japanese menswear history from the golden age of Tokyo fashion. This authentic MEN’S BIGI varsity-style jacket was made in Japan in the mid-to-late 1980s, when the brand stood at the forefront of the country’s modern fashion revolution alongside labels like Comme des Garçons, Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, and Takeo Kikuchi.
MEN’S BIGI, founded in 1975 under the legendary designer Takeo Kikuchi and part of the BIGI Company (Tokyo), became one of the most influential pioneers of Japanese contemporary menswear.
Their pieces from the 70s–80s were crafted domestically with exceptional attention to fabric, construction, and Western-inspired tailoring.
A beautiful example of how Japanese designers in the 1980s mixed European elegance with American varsity heritage.
