Wilson FG Tour V6-Now a unicorn?
The Wilson Staff FG Tour V6 Irons have been developed for the Feel player who is looking for the ultimate combination of a sleek classic design that offers soft feedback with shot-shaping consistency and control.
Wilson Staff are one of the most famous brands in golf history. Having won 59 major titles, more than any other manufacturer, it is their iron technology and the classic styling of their forged irons that has helped to make them so popular.
The classic head shape of the FG Tour V6 has been created by using an 8620 carbon steel for the ultimate feel, responsiveness and feedback. A progressive design using an innovative Tungsten weighting system provides the perfect balance through the set.
Long Irons - Features a split Tungsten weight between the heel and toe area to deliver maximum MOI stability, forgiveness and an easy-to-launch trajectory.
Mid Irons - Features a single Tungsten weight in the middle of the sole, this single weight lowers the CG behind the hitting zone to provide maximum forgiveness and excellent distance control.
Short Irons - No Tungsten has been used in the shorter irons to deliver greater shot-making consistency and precision in terms of trajectory and distance control.
The Impact Mass Area technology offers a solid, muscle back feel whilst offering the reponsiveness and forgiveness of a cavity iron....
So it's the off-season and I've been regretting getting rid of my FG Tour V6 irons. They're (for me) probably the best set of player's CB's I've ever bagged, but like a true club ho, I sold them like a fool. They're out of stock on the Wilson site so I am assuming a replacement is in the works. I've been keeping my eye out for a used set at the usual places. Ebay, Globalgolf, 2nd Swing, etc.. Not much t be found. During this past summer, I saw sets going for ridiculously low prices. Now that supply has diminished, prices are a little on the crazy side. I am watching one auction on Ebay which is already bid up over $500 and there are still 4 days left on the auction. I'm hoping at some point that a lot of sets will pop like the V4's did. I remember Ksouth sold a lot of those so hopefully someone snatched up a bunch of sets from Wilson....

In the FG Tour irons, Wilson Staff has quietly built one of the best lines of irons in golf. Each iteration has offered a substantial performance upgrade while maintaining the look and feel of a traditional players iron. The FG Tour V6 builds on the tungsten weighting used in the FG Tour V4 to take the performance to an even higher level.
Looks
Beautiful. From the moment I unboxed these irons, I was taken by their classic good looks. Wilson Staff went with a high-polish chrome for the FG Tour V6, and it gives them great visual pop. To balance the shine, they kept the graphics and colors very understated – primarily black with the smallest splash of gold.
At address, these irons have a small profile with thin soles and top lines and modest heel-to-toe lengths. In short, they’re everything that a better player wants to see.
Sound & Feel
As good as the FG Tour V6 irons look, they feel even better. These irons are soft and sweet when you catch the ball perfectly, and they provide excellent feedback. There’s a clear gradient of feel: small mishits still feel pretty good, big misses return a firm rebuke to your hands.
Performance
There are two things that make the Wilson Staff FG Tour V6 top performers: tungsten weighting and an inspired choice of shaft.
Wilson Staff first showed us the tungsten sole weighting in the FG Tour V4. In that set, the long irons had a weight in the middle of the sole and the short irons didn’t. The FG Tour V6 ups the ante by adding a third configuration. Now the long irons have tungsten weights in the heel and toe to promote high launch and forgiveness. The middle irons have the weight in the center of the sole to promote easy launch, and the scoring irons go without tungsten to keep the ball flight low.
While we remain huge advocates of being fit for the best shaft for your swing, credit has to be given to Wilson Staff for choosing the Dynamic Gold AMT as the stock shaft. You can read the full review HERE, but the short version is that the AMT gives you Dynamic Gold’s trademark stability and control while reducing the weight as the clubs get longer. The lighter shaft, paired with the tungsten weighting, makes for some of the longest, easiest-to-hit long irons in any players set.
