With the new GameChat online feature, players can play and chat as if they were in the same room, even if they are miles apart. Whether sharing a victory or simply saying hello, GameChat makes online play as social as playing from the same couch. When GameChat is active, players can start a conversation with friends at any time by pressing the C-button on the right Joy-Con 2 controller. The console's built-in microphone allows voice chat with up to 12 players. Additionally up to four players can share their game screen. If a compatible USB-C camera is used, such as the separately sold Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, players can also video chat and see each other's expressions during moments of joy, surprise, or triumph. Other friends can join the conversation with audio only. GameChat is available for free until the end of March 2026, after which its use will require a Nintendo Switch Online membership. When a GameChat conversation is initiated, the user invites friends from their friend list. Safety features help players have a secure and protected chat experience, such as the ability to report disruptive behavior directly during the conversation. Nintendo understands the important role of parents and guardians in children's online experiences: users under 16 require guardian permission to use GameChat via the updated version of the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app.
The Nintendo Switch 2 features a large, 7.9-inch built-in LCD screen that displays images in full 1080p HD resolution. The console maintains the same thickness as the original Nintendo Switch. Even when on the go, the Nintendo Switch 2 delivers a bright, detailed gaming experience with smooth graphics that showcase character movements and rich expressions.
The redesigned Joy-Con 2 controller model attaches magnetically to the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Furthermore, each Joy-Con 2 controller can be used like a mouse by sliding it. These controllers offer versatile usage, including in games that require aiming.
The new freely adjustable stand and new USB-C port. The new, stable stand on the back of the Nintendo Switch 2 is freely adjustable, allowing players to choose their preferred viewing angle. While the original Nintendo Switch only has one USB-C port at the bottom of the console, the Nintendo Switch 2 also features a port at the top, enabling the console to be charged while playing in tabletop mode with the included power adapter. You can also connect a compatible USB-C camera, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, to enjoy video chat in GameChat.
Powerful CPU and GPU performance. The Nintendo Switch 2 features significantly improved CPU and GPU performance compared to the original Nintendo Switch, resulting in faster processing speeds and enabling more visually advanced games. This also enhances graphic details and reduces loading times.
Sharp audio quality and three-dimensional sound. The Nintendo Switch 2 offers more natural and clearer audio quality with an even more balanced sound frequency range. When playing in tabletop mode or as a handheld console, players can experience even more immersive three-dimensional sound.
Internal storage of 256 GB. The Nintendo Switch 2's internal storage, used for digital games and save data, is 256 GB, which is 8 times larger compared to the original Nintendo Switch. For additional storage, the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusively uses microSD Express memory cards, which offer faster data transfer speeds than previous microSD models.
