The 2629 features a full-sized, thinline, semi-hollow, double cutaway body design which is reminiscent of a Gibson ES-335 Dot. It has an arched birch top with ƒ holes and ivory binding and birch back and sides with a hard rock maple center block mated to a set-in rock maple neck with a 22-fret ebony fingerboard with ivory binding and abalone dot position markers. Components include a pair of Ibanez Super 80 humbucking pickups with chrome covers and individual volume and tone controls, black pickup rings, a tortoise pick guard, a Tune-o-matic style Gibraltar bridge with heavy brass tone block set into the body, a Gibraltar tailpiece with a scalloped ornament, a bone nut, Sure Grip knobs, and VelveTune tuning machines.
For 1978 gold plated tuning machine buttons were added.
The 2630 is a similar model with a curly maple body, split block fretboard inlays, a Tri-sound switch for the neck pickup and gold hardware.
The 2629 was discontinued in mid-1979. It was replaced by the AS100 (1979–1982) which has pointier horns and repositioned pickup toggle and output.
