Den tidligere CIA- agenten Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) har ellers trukket sig tilbage og lever et stilfærdigt liv i L.A. Men alting ændrer sig, da han uretfærdigt beskyldes for at stå bag mordet på sin smukke ekskone Lenore (Famke Janssen). Mills tvinges til at flygte fra CIA, FBI og politiet, mens han forsøger at opspore den rigtige morder og samtidig beskytte det eneste dyrebare, han har tilbage – sin datter (Maggie Grace).
Liam Neeson er tilbage i rollen som Bryan Mills, der startede tilbage i 2008 i den overraskende effektive og meget succesfulde Taken.
