Explorermotoryacht, Motoryacht, årg. 1957, fod 71, Diesel, skrog: Stål, hjemhavn: Lübeck (Tyskland), Meridian was built in 1957 as a rescue cruiser for the Swedish rescue company SSRS at the "Djurgardsvarvet" shipyard in Stockholm. In 1982, it was converted by the SSRS at "Djupviks Varvet", now "Swede Ship Marine". Essentially, only the hull, deck, tanks and the cabins below deck remained for the new ship. It was given a new aluminum superstructure, new technology and machinery. This historically interesting ship was in active rescue service until 2002, during which time it rescued 157 people, assisted 1430 ships and carried out 730 patient transports. After the sale, an extensive overhaul took place and through the conversion in the following years, the ship is now comfortably suitable for private use as an explorer motor yacht, with a range of 9000nm. With a living area of 80m² and plenty of additional storage space, she offers plenty of room for living on board.
Steel hull with aluminum superstructure
Length: 21.60 meters
Width: 5.99 meters
Draft: 2.60 - 2.80 meters
Displacement: 90 tons
Tonnage: 23 NT/NRZ, 77 GT/BRZ
Main engine: 2 x Volvo Penta TAMD 120 BCC, with water-cooled turbocharger and intercooler, 656 hp at 1800 rpm continuous shaft power. Both engines are connected to a "Masson Marine" double reduction gearbox on a shaft with a hydraulically adjustable propeller. Each engine can be used independently or together, resulting in a very high safety potential and, in combination with the propeller, extremely economical driving.
Cruising speed: 9.5 knots at approx. 6.5 liters per nautical mile, 7.5 knots at approx. 2.5 liters per nautical mile, which enables a range of 9,000 nautical miles.
Max. Speed: 11 knots.
Generator: 1 x G&M Power Plant 15 KVA, 380/220 V
1 x Honda EU20i 2.0 KVA 230V generator in soundproof housing.
Bunker: Fuel approx. 23000 liters in 7 tanks
Lubrication approx. 800 liters
Used oil approx. 800 liters
Fresh water 3560 liters in 2 tanks
The ship was also designed for icebreaking and towing and kept the fairways in the Swedish archipelago clear in winter. It has an icebreaker stem and ice deflectors in front of the propeller whose blades are made of stainless steel. The cooling water inlets are located in the lower keel area to prevent blockages caused by ice chippings. A towing hook is located at the rear of the superstructure.
The hull thickness is between 8 and 12 mm, the keel and parts of the bow and stern areas are more than 20 mm thick, and the deck is 6.5 mm thick.
In order to keep the ship afloat in the event of an accident, there are three buoyancy tanks in front of the engine room and one behind. The engine room is embedded between the fuel tanks, which are located on each side of the hull. All sections can be steered individually. The forward and aft compartments are located behind watertight bulkheads with corresponding doors.
