Sailing a Lady Helmsman, whether upwind or under spinnaker, is still a delicacy for me even after 45 years.
The lines and the overall handling of the boat speak for themselves.
Yes, it must be something very special to remain loyal to a boat for 45 years.
The Lady Helmsman could only be bought as a 3/4 factory build from Helmsman Yachtdesign AB in Vaxholm/Sweden.
The final outfitting was done either by the owner or by one of the shipyards under contract to Helmsman.
I had my Lady, construction number 163, fitted out by Helmsman Vordingborg Yachtservice.
I can certainly speak of a close relationship with my Lady. The expenses incurred by specialist workshops and boat builders to keep my Lady in good condition were/are correspondingly high. Continuous care for the overall visual impression, that goes without saying.
The overall impression of the boat: very well maintained, the Lady is in top condition.
All this can be said of the hull, whether it's the freeboard or the underwater hull, the mast or the 27hp Volvo Penta engine, the GRP or woodwork, the gas stove or the upholstery.
And all these things - service, maintenance work, purchases - are recorded in detailed documentation.
If I now have to say goodbye to my lady for health reasons, I hope I can say that even at the age of 45, she is still an eye-catcher.
I have to give up sailing for health reasons.
