Om bogen:
Excellent book to read. Helps you understand better the meaning of the offerings. Easy to read and surprisingly short but well written.
Provides an overview of the different types of Levitical offerings in the Old Testament, including burnt offerings, sin offerings, peace offerings, meat offerings, and trespass offerings. It summarizes each offering's purpose:
1) atoning for sin,
2) reconciling man to God,
3) providing a substitute to make the offerer holy,
4) identifying the offerer with Christ who is worthy of God's favor.
The burnt offering described in Leviticus 1 represented Christ's perfect obedience and sacrifice, by which believers can draw near to God and find acceptance.
Types of the Levitical Offerings examines the pictures presented in the Levitical system which represent spiritual truths. Newberry explores the "deep things of God" in looking at the following:
- The Burnt or Ascending Offering
- The Meat or Gift Offering
- The Peace Offering
- The Sin Offering for Sins of Ignorance
- The Trespass Offering
- The Consecration of the Priests
- The Cleansing of the Leper
- The Day of Atonement
- The Ashes of the Red Heifer
- Shadows of the Cross
Also included are a Questions and Answers section and an Appendix, providing supplementary information on specific topics addressed.
Om forfatteren:
Newberry was born into a Christian household in 1811. Although little is known about his early years, it is reported that through the witness of his older sister and mother, both believers, he was born again at a young age. He eventually came into fellowship with other Christians at the Plymouth Brethren assembly on Meadow Street, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, UK. He based his decision to join with the Brethren based on his studies of Scripture, and from 1840 had devoted himself to studying the Bible not just in English but in its original languages of Hebrew and Greek. After a number of years of serious study, Newberry published The Englishman's Bible in 1886, and it's this amongst his many other works that became his most famous legacy. He also contributed Bible teaching articles to The Witness and other Christian magazines, as well as conducting an extensive correspondence with Bible students across the world. Newberry passed away in his sleep at Weston-super-Mare on 16th January, 1901, at the age of ninety. He authored many works, including: Newberry Reference Bible, Types of the Tabernacle, Types of Levitical Offerings, Outlines of the Revelation, Solar Light as Illustrating Trinity in Unity, The Parables of Our Lord, The Perfections and Excellencies of Scripture, and The Song of Solomon.
