This box set contains rare and thrilling music featuring Wild Bill Davison, one of the all-time great Dixieland cornet players. He was a man whose bullish personality was matched by a fearless playing style that was to make him a true jazz original, praised by Louis Armstrong as never having taken anything from him,
Closely associated with Chicago's Eddie Condon in his heyday, the aptly named Wild Bill was never destinated to fade away quietly in his latter career. Instead, in his sixties, he based himself in Denmark for five productive years. Having toured extensively in Europe, it was in Denmark where he found working musicians whom he admired and who shared his love of Dixieland, notably Fessor' Big City Band and Papa Bue's Wiking Jazzband. From a base in Copenhagen, Will Bill, with this and various other Danish collaborators, toured in Denmark, Italy, Spain and even Argentina.
This box set tells the whole fascinating story across 4 CDs of key performances from the period, accompanied wiht authoritative liner notes and a DVD of Will Bill playing with the Eddie Condon All Stars in New York in the early 1960s.
