This richly illustrated work sheds light on the organ-building dynasty of Compenius, and the history of the instrument before and after it arrived in Denmark in 1617.
The book brings together existing knowledge and offers new insights, including the many discoveries made when the organ underwent its most recent restoration in the 1980s.
Every Thursday the Compenius Organ makes the Chapel of Frederiksborg Castle resound with music from the Renaissance. The organ blower gives the instrument breath, and the organist playing on the manuals and pedals sends air through the pipes producing the sound. When one listens to the organ in the chapel with the star-ribbed vaults where angels fly round with crowns, triumphal wreaths and symbols of the Danish king's realms and countries, one feels slightly closer to the time when the young, proud Christian IV had his incomparable castle built and furnished with rare treasures - one of them was the Compenius organ.
