Stand: Brugt - men i god stand
According to the Japan Poster website, this is a rare, original 1993 licensed offset print featuring iconic artwork by Katsuhiro Otomo, produced to commemorate the Akira manga and film. Printed in Spain by 1000 Editions, this piece was officially licensed from Kodansha Ltd. and Otomo’s own production company, MASH-ROOM Co., Ltd., for exclusive distribution in the European market. This is not a theatrical poster but a fine art reproduction, officially licensed and printed on textured art paper (see photos).
I bought this poster from the Forbidden Planet store in Liverpool, some time in the mid 1990s where it had hung on the wall as decoration for several years. After that it hung in my studio for about four years, and then in 2001, it went into storage and was forgotten.
Published by 1000 Editions, from Rasquera, Tarragona, Spain. Officially licensed from Kodansha Ltd. (Tokyo) and MASH-ROOM Co., Ltd. Otomo’s signature appears both in Roman characters ("OTOMO K.") and in stylized Japanese kanji with a red artist’s seal — hallmarks of his authenticated work.
The poster is in good condition despite it's age. The poster has some slight wear, with a single perferation at the bottom (from a thumb tack) and two small scuffs (see photos). The poster has been in storage for well over two decades and the paper is slightly dry. There is an old cellotape stain on the back but this can't be seen from the front.
