The story of how darkness became a serious design language in fine watchmaking is worth telling, because the Arsenale Ultrablack does not exist in a vacuum. H. Moser & Cie. were among the first to bring truly radical blackness to the high end of the market with their Vantablack series — dials coated in a material originally developed for astrophysics and thermo-camouflage applications, capable of absorbing 99.9% of visible light. The effect on the wrist is genuinely disorienting: the dial does not read as black in the way a conventional dial does. It reads as an absence. As though whoever made the watch simply left that part out. H. Moser understood immediately that this was not merely a material curiosity but a philosophical statement — the watch stripped of every affectation, reduced to its mechanical soul, wrapped in something that swallows the light whole. The watches that resulted are extraordinary. They are also, inevitably, priced at a level that makes them a considered investment rather than a wearable companion for a night out or a week of back-to-back flights.
The stripped-back dial has no hour markers or minute scale, just the Venezianico cross above skeletonized hands — a minimalist look one reviewer described as the most simple and beautiful black dial they’d seen. At just 8.95mm thick with a 40mm case and 44mm lug-to-lug,  it wears slim and comfortable. Inside is the self-winding Miyota 9029, a 28,800vph movement with hacking seconds and 42 hours of power reserve,  paired with a sapphire crystal and anti-reflective coating.
The caseback trades the usual Arsenale motif for an engraved satellite orbiting Earth, symbolizing the link between Venice’s history and a more futuristic vision. 
Comes on the integrated black rubber strap, brand new and unworn, complete with box and papers.
