Varebeskrivelse
Stand: Brugt - men i god stand
Als is part of Denmark, but has developed historically and culturally in its own unique way. The inhabitants call themselves 'Alsings', and in virtue of its history the island is different from the rest of Denmark.
The Island of Als has been written for guests to the island. It presents the island scenery and its rich history and cultural life, and tells the story of the many companies that have their head offices here; companies with local roots but with a global vision.
The location of the island near the German border entails strong European connections; cities such as Hamburg and Berlin are in many ways just as close as Copenhagen. Even so, there is no doubt about the island's close relationship with Denmark and the central role it has played in Danish history.
The author, cultural historian Inge Adriansen (1944-2017), lived on Als. She specialised in the history of Southern Jutland and was from 1969 to 2014 attached to the Museum at Sønderborg Castle, from 1988 as curator.
