A book showing the funny clever Cartoons and drawings made by the British/ American cartoonist Ronald Searle.
He started making drawings for Punch Magazine in 1947.
Most of the drawings in This book are based on his American travels.
Ronald Searle gives to the magnificent comedy of human nature his most scrupulous attention, and rarely has it received so rousing an interpretation. Provincetown painters being gulled by their critics, Victorian gentlemen being given the air in British Columbia, Eskimos staggering under a whale of a catch, and star-spangled aristocrats hotly pursuing the Hamiltionian ideal may be too busy or bemused to see the humor of the situation, but the rest of us Can.
Searle makes fun of americans, the wilds of Canada, frozen Alaska, Wall street, Pentagon.
then visits tribal America , ending up in Florida, making fun of the different types of people in superb cartoons.
The very first sets the scene, a man arriving at the northenmost hotel in USA, the Anchorage westword hotel , in a taxi, but not a car, a sledge taxi drawn by small dogs.
In a later Cartoon, see picture 14, brothel worker Klondike Kate just can’t get customers anymore because progress and wealth means customers would rather watch classical Music on television.
Published 1964. Hardback, with a witty introduktion by Groucho Marx.
