A tale of espionage and organised crime involving Clinton (Andy Garcia), a small-time smuggler who loads up his old car with drugged tropical birds and drives them across the border. On a spur of the moment visit, he discovers his brother murdered and the killers ransacking the house. His only lead is Nadine Powers (Ellen Barkin), an ex-hooker who reluctantly agrees to help him. They uncover a link between the mob, a shady lawyer and retired military men. They also discover a tape that links Clinton's brother to the scheme and provides a motive for his murder. The conspirators will kill to get the tape back. Nadine and Clinton barely escape with their lives and Clinton is bent on revenge
