APPLICATION YEARS FOR THE PART: Fits 1971-76 Eldorado
CONDITION / DETAILS: This Housing goes on the top of the rear seat (Convertible model only). It alerts the driver as to the status of your taillights. The Monitor Head tended to break off easily due to the location, especially if the parade boot was installed wrong...that's why many Eldo convertibles are missing them. If your current one does not light up when you brake or use the turn signal, then likely your harness wire(s) have been cut or damaged. The wiring in this unit is great, the light passed from the source to the Optic Head very well. See pic.
There are a total of 2 fiber optic wires in the Optic Head - one for each taillight. The wire end plugs into the pickup lens (not included) that is made of rubber and "plugged" into a hole in the taillight housing. The Head is thick molded plastic and can be repainted to match your car's interior. This piece actually mounts to the rear seat upper frame (metal surround portion).
These original GM 1970's units are very hard to find. It's a MUST HAVE item since it's a very novel item that only Cadillac (and the Corvette) had at the time.
