I have been engaged in painting and creating art since the age at which I was able to grasp a brush. Recently, a realisation struck me: I don't have my own painting style, and what I did before was merely a learning process. The same evening, before falling asleep, I saw an image of this painting.
I studied physics, so I like smart things. A picture that is meaningful—not only aesthetic. When tiny drops hang together in the sky, they create clouds. By relieving themselves of the pressure created by small drops, they create rain—the birthplace of a drop. A tiny piece of compressed water molecules is drawn by the immeasurable gravitational force of our planet. During their fall, they do what nothing else on our planet is capable of doing (except prisms)—they create a spectrum of colours laid out for our astonishment high in the sky. And when drops fall, gathering into puddles, they create ripples on the water surface—another of nature's illusions, giving us an impression of radial movement when, in reality, the water surface only moves up and down in perfect harmony. These drops, tiny as they are, have the power of an ocean when gathered together by the pull of our planet, the Earth.
I hung this piece on my bathroom wall just in front of the toilet, giving it a slightly twisted perspective of what a drop can mean. 😉
A 33x41 cm acrylic on canvas with frame imitation, finished with glossy varnish.
