The PS Audio DirectStream Mk 1 is a FPGA-based, pure DSD, single-bit DAC that upsamples all inputs to 20x DSD (28.224MHz) using a passive output stage. It features 7 digital inputs (I2S, USB, Coax, TOSlink, XLR) and a Network Bridge slot, supporting up to 352.8kHz/24bit PCM and DSD128 (DSD256 with Sunlight update).
The DirectStream DAC is known for transforming all input signals (PCM or DSD) into a single-bit, double-rate DSD signal, enhancing musicality and removing digital harshness!
Core Specifications & Features:
- Converter Type: Custom-programmed Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). No off-the-shelf IC-DAC chips are used.
- Digital Inputs: 2 x I2S, 1 x Coax, 1 x XLR Balanced, 1 x TOSLINK, 1 x USB, 1 x Network Bridge slot.
- Analog Outputs: One stereo pair balanced (XLR), one stereo pair unbalanced (RCA).
- Supported Formats: PCM (44.1kHz to 352.8kHz) and DSD (64/128, with 256 supported via I2S and Sunlight update).
- Input Processing: 170 MHz; Signal Processing: 50 MHz; Synchronous Upsampling: 28.224 MHz.
- Output Stage: Passive audio transformer, high-speed analog amps.
- Output Levels: High (2.81 VRMS Balanced, 1.41 VRMS RCA); Low (0.28 VRMS Balanced, 0.14 VRMS RCA).

- Volume Control: Zero-loss digital volume control allowing direct connection to power amplifiers.
- Software: User-upgradable via SD card for new operating systems (e.g., Snowmass, Sunlight).
