Dragon Dice (PC, 1997)
Dragon Dice is the computer version of TSR's successful dice game that takes place in the land of Esfah. You create, build, control, and maintain armies in a strategic fantasy where results depend on the roll of the dice (for the computer, the dice have been morphed into fantasy creatures and playing fields) and your strategy.
Using goblins (Trogs), coral elves (Selumari), lava elves (Morehl), dwarves (Vagha), dragons, and terrain, your "dice-troops" are divided into three armies that you disperse into multiple areas (terrains). Once in place, the actual warring and strategy begins as you maneuver, attack, reinforce your armies, or retreat in the battle between Nature and Death.
The rules of engagement mirror the dice game in complexity and are controlled by a rigid series of turn-based movements. The vast array of units and their specialized weapons, magic spells, and combat choices (melee, missile, magic, skirmish, etc.) ensure replay value. For those not interested in magic, an option to turn it off is available.
The epic struggle features clashes between the armies of Nature (Selumari and Vagha) and Death (Morehl and Trogs), both using elemental magic, might, and, as time goes on, the summoning of dragons to aid their causes.
Although simple in concept, Dragon Dice is a complex strategy game. It contains a tutorial and detailed manual which allow you to jump in the action fairly quickly. Dragon Dice has multi-player capability and can be played as a standard game, special Campaign game, or as a Tournament.
