Beskrivelse: "On January 7-10, 2004, seventeen scholars from five countries met with the members of the Copenhagen Polis Centre to hold a symposium on the imaginary polis.
The symposium was planned and organised by the editor of this volume. Eleven of the scholars submitted papers which had been circulated in advance to all participants. Seven others were asked each to respond to one or two of the papers. For the names of the participants see the list on page 4. One contributor to this volume did not participate in the symposium but was invited afterwards to write a contribution about Plato’s Kallipolis.
The four main themes of the symposium were: (1) the utopian polis-, (2) idealised views of historical poleis; (3) general views of the polis in epic, tragedy and comedy; and (4) the planned polis as an urban settlement. In the light of the views of the respondents and the following discussion of each of the papers among all the participants, the papers were subsequently revised by their authors, and are published in this volume."
