How to Run in Half Power Mode (2 Power Tubes)
Tube Removal: Remove the two center power tubes (6L6 or EL34). The two outer tubes must remain in the sockets to operate the amp.
Impedance Change: When running on two power tubes, you must change your speaker cabinet impedance matching: Connect an 8-ohm cabinet to the 4-ohm output (or a 16-ohm cab to the 8-ohm output) to prevent damage to the output transformer.
Rectifier Tubes: If using "Tube Tracking" mode, you should remove one of the 5U4 rectifier tubes to ensure a proper load, though it is not strictly required.
Bias Setting: The amp uses a fixed bias, so no adjustment is needed when running on two tubes, though the remaining tubes will wear out faster.
Important Considerations
Volume Difference: Reducing the wattage from 100 to 50 watts results in a subtle 3dB decrease in volume, which is barely noticeable, but it changes the feel to be looser and easier to push into overdrive.
Tone Shift: Many users find the 50-watt mode produces a "spongier" sound that is excellent for leads, while the 100-watt mode is tighter for modern metal rhythm.
Alternatives: To get true low-volume saturated tones, consider using a high-quality attenuator instead of relying solely on pulling tubes.
