Appliqué and Patchwork, Lesley Turpin, emne: håndarbejde, Appliqué, patchwork and quilting are complementary forms of needlework. In combination with embroidery they are probably the oldest forms of stitching. Originally they were invented out of necessity but as time passed they were used for decoration. Examples of these crafts have åbeen found dating back to the late ninth century BC.
