Dr. Matthews is a retired professor of Old Testament at Beeson Divinity School. He has written several other books. His commentary on the first part of Genesis is well-researched and very reliable. His level of depth in the commentary: the Hebrew spelling of key words but also interesting and helpful commentary on all types of things behind and in the language of the text. A layperson who's really into the technical aspects of the text but doesn't know Hebrew can still enjoy this volume (and set), but it's aimed at seminary students up to professionals. The author is conservative, Evangelical, and quotes older saints.

Kenneth A. Mathews (ThM, Dallas Theological Seminary; PhD, University of Michigan) is professor of divinity at Beeson Divinity School, Samford University, where he teaches Old Testament, Hebrew, and biblical hermeneutics. His noted publications include commentaries on Genesis and (as coauthor) the Leviticus Scroll from the Dead Sea Scrolls.
